990 Super Duke

The 990 Super Duke was KTM's first naked bike with two cylinders. In 2002, the Super Duke was first presented to the public at the Intermot . Style-forming elements were the 9 kg lightweight tubular steel frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel and the angular attachments. A short time later it became known that the Super Duke is powered not by the 942 cc LC8 engine of the Reiseenduro Adventure , but by a new 999 cc version with gasoline injection and 88 kW (120 hp). Various stages of expansion have since been presented at exhibitions and fairs, until it finally came on the market as the 990 Super Duke in 2005.

Model Development

For the 2007 model year, the 990 Super Duke has undergone a major facelift for the first time. It received some subtle visual changes (lamp mask, front fender, speedometer unit), a larger tank (plus 3.5 l to 18.5 l), radially bolted Brembo brake calipers at the front and a new engine management , which meets the EURO3 standard and many times criticized, high consumption lowered. Furthermore, the suspension geometry has been slightly changed in favor of more stability.

As an additional variant, the 990 Super Duke R was included in the program. This is an even sportier, single-seater version, which differs in its equipment from the base model. For example, the 48 mm sliding tubes of the upside-down telescopic fork of KTM subsidiary WP Suspension are titanium nitride- coated and an adjustable steering damper is designed to prevent steering wheel impact. Steering head angle and caster were changed in the R version again towards easier handling.

In the 2008 model year, the engine of the Super Duke R R was revised, so that the rated power rose to 97 kW (132 hp). Among other things, the intake valves, camshafts and throttle bodies have been modified, as well as an Akrapovic exhaust manifold fitted as standard.

For 2012, the standard variant and the Super Duke R have been combined; there was only the Super Duke R with an engine power were 92 kW (125 hp). The suspension has been adapted from the Super Duke R. The model was only available with two seats and in one color.

1290 Super Duke R

Based on the concept vehicle The Beast , which was presented at the end of 2012 at the EICMA in Milan , KTM presented in 2013 more details on the successor to the 990 R , including the much larger displacement. In October 2013, the Super Duke 1290 R was officially presented. The basic features of the RC8 known, once again revised V2 engine with a displacement of 1301 cc initially had a maximum output of 127 kW (173 hp) and a maximum torque of 144 Nm [2] . Via X-ring chain, the power is delivered via a single-arm swingarm to the rear wheel. A multiple adjustable traction control helps. The chassis is adjustable in preload, rebound and compression, the brakes have an ABS . All driver assistance systems can be switched off in stages. The empty weight without fuel is 189 kg and thus only marginally more than with the Super Duke 990 R.

1290 Super Duke GT

For the 2016 model year, KTM introduced a variant of the 1290 R, the Super Duke GT. This is equipped with an extended and reinforced rear frame to make the pillion seat larger and more comfortable. In addition, a windshield was mounted on the lamp cover and the motorcycle fitted as standard with removable side pockets. A larger tank (23 l) and adjustable handlebar and peg positions increase the usability of the Super Duke for longer touring rides.
Electronic assistance systems such as cornering ABS, cruise control, Hill Start Assist and suspension adjustment are fitted as standard.
